What are you looking for in applicants?+
We are looking for students who are genuinely curious, introspective, and willing to have their thinking challenged. Academic achievement matters, but we are equally interested in how you think and what you care about. There is no ideal background or profile.
Do I need prior philosophy experience?+
No prior philosophy background is required or expected. Many of our strongest fellows have never taken a philosophy class. What matters is your willingness to read carefully and engage honestly.
How do I apply?+
Applications are now open and close May 15, 2026. The application consists of two short essays, an official transcript, and a brief interview conducted by members of our admissions committee. There is no application fee.
Who is eligible?+
The Academy Fellowship is open to rising juniors, rising seniors, and incoming college freshmen. Applicants must be at least 16 years old by June 20, 2026 and may not turn 19 before July 31, 2026.
What does it cost?+
The program is entirely free of charge. Students with financial need will receive a stipend to cover materials and transportation.
How often do we meet in person?+
Fellows meet 1–2 times per week in person for extended seminar in Midtown Manhattan and are expected to complete 10–15 hours of independent reading to prepare for each session.
Is the program residential?+
The program is a day program. Fellows commute to Midtown Manhattan for weekly seminars. Transportation stipends are available for those with demonstrated financial need.
